1. Articles: a/an

We use "a" and "an" to talk about one thing (a singular noun).

Use "a" before words that start with a consonant sound.
Examples: a dog, a book, a teacher

Use "an" before words that start with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
Examples: an apple, an elephant, an orange

💡 Tip: Listen to the sound, not just the letter! We say "an hour" (because "hour" starts with a vowel sound: /aʊər/) but "a university" (because "university" starts with a "/juː/" sound: ).

Don't draw on the table.
Don't pick up your pencil yet.
