1. "be" – Long and Short Forms (Affirmative, Negative, Questions)
The verb "be" means "to be" or "to exist". We use it to talk about who we are, what something is, or where something is.
✅ Affirmative
Example sentences:
- I am 11 years old. = I'm 11 years old.
- You are funny. = You're funny.
- She is my friend. = She's my friend.
- We are from Hungary. = We're from Hungary.
- They are in the park. = They're in the park.
❌ Negative
To make a negative sentence, we add "not" to the verb.
Example sentences:
- I am not tired. = I'm not tired.
- You are not late. = You aren't late
- It is not a cat. = It isn't a cat.
- We are not hungry. = We aren't hungry.
- They are not in the classroom. = They aren't in the classroom.

To ask a question, we start the sentence with the verb: Am, Is, Are.
