2. Comparative Adjectives

We use comparative adjectives to compare two people, animals, places, or things.

🏗 Comparative sentence structure
subject + be + comparative adjective + than + noun



⚙️ Rules

1. Short adjectives → add -er


💬 Examples
- My brother is taller than me.
- A bike is faster than a skateboard.

2. Adjectives ending in -e → add -r


💬 Examples
- This room is larger than my bedroom.
- Your bag is nicer than mine.

3. Short adjectives ending in consonant-vowel-consonant → double the last letter + -er


4. Adjectives ending in consonant + y → change y to i + -er

- She is happier today.
- This film is funnier than the other one.

5. Long adjectives → use more

3. Superlative Adjectives

We use superlative adjectives to compare three or more people, animals, places, or things.

They show:
➡️ the highest degree
➡️ the biggest / smallest / best, etc.

1. Short adjectives → add -est

- My brother is the tallest in the family.
- A cheetah is the fastest animal.

2. Adjectives ending in -e → add -st
